GELA MIKAVA is a Georgian contemporary artist based in Tbilisi, Georgia. Working across painting and mixed media, his practice explores post-socialist memory, material culture, identity, displacement, and the psychological traces of social and political transformation.
A recurring material in Mikava’s practice is Soviet-era biaz, a domestic cotton fabric connected to his childhood in Zugdidi and to the material history of post-Soviet Georgia. Through fragmented imagery, layered surfaces, found materials, and painterly interventions, his work examines how personal and collective memory persists within objects, images, and everyday materials.
